• About The ESCeL eLearning Platform

Education and scientific activities are means by which the ESC fulfils its mission - to reduce the burden of cardiovascular disease - with the congress and meetings being the traditional delivery channel. Today, the internet is another potential channel that can be developed as a rich communication and long distance learning medium that reaches far beyond geographic boundaries.

To respond to educational demands, the ESC now offers an online education platform to General Cardiology and Cardiology Specialities, which implements the curricula, to set the professional standards of cardiology practice and patient care. The initiative enhances the value of ESC content and strengthens the speciality of cardiology via the delivery of curricula and the harmonisation of training. A key point is that educational content is mapped to the curricula i.e. knowledge, skills, and professionalism.

The European Society of Cardiology (ESC) is a non-profit association, located in Sophia-Antipolis France, whose mission is “to reduce the burden of cardiovascular disease”.

The ESC is composed of 27 subspecialty communities, including 6 Associations, 6 Councils, 15 Working Groups and 56 National Cardiac Societies and represents over 95,000 cardiology professionals across the world. As a highly respected scientific organisation, the ESC reaches out to a global audience.

The ESC provides an array of scientific and educational activities, such as the production and continuous updating of Clinical Practice Guidelines, the organisation of educational courses and initiatives, pan-European surveys on specific disease areas. The ESC also edits and publishes 12 of the world's leading journals on cardiology, headed by its flagship, The European Heart Journal.

The ESC promotes cardiovascular disease prevention messages to the general public and has significant influence in the political arena (with the European Commission) and other initiatives to bring together cardiology leaders and pharmaceutical/medical device industry leaders.

It also organises the ESC Congress, the largest cardiology meeting in the world. The ESC is also proud to hold, in conjunction with its constituent bodies, several subspecialty congresses, which are becoming increasingly popular within the profession.
